about

Total Time: 52:46

As a kid I had always been fascinated by the Forbidden Planet movie. Back then it was Saturday morning cartoons, break go outside and play for awhile or maybe mow the lawn. Then around 3 pm come in for lunch and the Saturday afternoon sci-fi or horror flick. The 1956 film Forbidden Planet, stood out from the other movies in part for its wonderful soundtrack by Louis and Bebe Barron. One of the scenes that especially intrigued me was when the characters in the movie were listening to the music of the Krell.

So here I am as a kid growing up in the 70s. The 50s B-movies sci-fi were old news. A guy by the name of George Lucas had just come out with a new twist on the sci-fi genre which I went to the movies to see over and over again. In those days movies stayed in the theaters for a long time and I went to see the films I loved over and over again.

Eventually as I began to compose my own music the ideas in the Barron's soundtrack and the idea of an music made by Aliens from outer space helped to guide and define my own compositions and has continued to fascinate me ever since.
